What Is a Manufacturing Operating System (MOS)?

Ask ten manufacturers what runs their factory and you'll get ten different diagrams: an ERP for orders, a handful of spreadsheets, a shared drive of Word documents, a whiteboard, and a lot of knowledge that lives only in people's heads. A Manufacturing Operating System, or MOS, is the layer that ties that together, not by replacing your machines or your ERP, but by governing how work is defined, controlled and delivered on the floor.
